Editorial standards
These principles guide every story published by Il-Ġabra.
We reserve “exclusive” for reporting built from our own documents, data, interviews or eyewitness work. Rewritten competitor reporting is never presented as an exclusive.
News, analysis, opinion, satire, sponsored work and developing stories remain visually distinct. A reader should know what kind of work they are reading before the first paragraph.
Serious claims are checked against named sources. Original reporting links sit beside each summary, and material updates remain part of the public record. Confidential sources require a documented public-interest reason.
For original reporting, anyone facing significant criticism receives a clear summary of the claim and a reasonable opportunity to respond. In sourced summaries, attribution and any published response remain clear.
Material errors are corrected promptly on the story itself. The correction explains what changed and when; the original publication is not silently rewritten.
Owners, editors and reporters declare relevant public, political, commercial and organisational roles. Coverage involving a direct conflict must receive independent review or wait until that review is available.
Sponsors do not preview or approve editorial work. Paid content is clearly labelled, and commercial relationships do not determine news coverage.
Automation may help with transcription, translation, research organisation and production. A responsible editor verifies publication, and synthetic images or meaningful AI assistance are disclosed.
Corrections and replies
Material corrections are added to the affected story with the date and a clear explanation. Rights of reply are assessed promptly and published when they materially add to the public record.
