Malta’s economy expanded by 1.1% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the previous three months. Eurostat figures placed Malta and Estonia jointly second among EU member states, behind Denmark’s 1.9% quarterly growth. Compared with the first quarter of 2025, Maltese GDP was 4.3% higher, again ranking second behind Denmark. Prime Minister Robert Abela welcomed the data and contrasted Malta’s pace with the much lower euro-area average, presenting the figures as support for the government’s economic policy.
