Demolition began on an old farmhouse within the UNESCO buffer zone around the Ġgantija temples, clearing the way for an apartment development. Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar said the loss of the heritage building and the scale of the replacement would harm the archaeological site’s setting. UNESCO had previously requested a Heritage Impact Assessment after objections from NGOs. Although the study recognised Ġgantija’s unusually open and tranquil surroundings and warned of change, the assessor still approved demolition of the farmhouse.
