The Electoral Commission confirmed that three eligible Labour candidates would not participate in the casual elections scheduled for Friday. Labour MPs elected in two districts had vacated eight seats across the second, third, seventh, eighth, ninth, eleventh and twelfth districts, with two vacancies in the ninth. Edward Cassar Delia, Damian Spiteri and Omar Rababah stayed out. Rababah had announced his decision after Labour selected which districts to vacate, a choice that reduced his prospects because Ian Borg’s seventh district was retained.
