Malta emerged as the EU’s second most economically optimistic country in the 2026 Flash Eurobarometer, behind Luxembourg. Seventy-six per cent of Maltese respondents described the national economy as being in good condition, compared with widespread pessimism elsewhere. Only 10% said they struggled with daily expenses such as food, housing and transport, the lowest share in the Union. Maltese respondents were also the most confident about the next generation, with 70% expecting today’s children to achieve a higher living standard than their parents.
