The 103-kilometre subsea cable for Malta’s second electricity interconnector with Sicily completed manufacturing and factory testing at Nexans’ Charleston facility. Fibre-optic components were produced in Norway before copper conductors, insulation, sheathing, assembly and armouring were completed in the United States. Ten-kilometre sections were joined into two main lengths, including spare cable for storage in Malta. The cable is now ready to load onto the Nexans Electra installation vessel. Offshore route-clearance work has also finished, enabling laying operations to proceed later in 2026.
