A cohort of 138 newly qualified doctors began work in government hospitals and health facilities through the Malta Foundation Programme. Of the group, 114 were Maltese graduates and the remainder came from other countries. The programme combines clinical employment with supervised postgraduate training, allowing doctors to rotate through services and develop practical skills after university. Officials said the intake would support the public-health workforce while maintaining structured professional development, mentorship and standards during the transition from medical study to independent practice.
