The Association of Private Family Doctors welcomed expanded access to state-hospital diagnostics from 1 September. Private family-medicine specialists and other consultants will be able to request a broader range of blood tests and ultrasound examinations; previously, access was largely limited to basic blood work and X-rays. Family doctor Jason Bonnici said the change should help diagnose and manage community patients more efficiently, cut unnecessary referrals to emergency and specialist services, and reduce repeated hospital trips. Results can be reviewed directly by the treating doctor.
