Two companies have submitted offers to charter a fourth ferry for the Malta–Gozo route, according to the Gozo Ministry. The vessel is intended to replace Nikolaos under an initial two-year contract while supporting rising passenger and vehicle demand. Officials said evaluation of the bids will begin in the coming days and weeks. The charter is a bridge to Gozo Channel Operations’ planned purchase of two permanent vessels by 2029: a €65 million ferry carrying 250 vehicles and a €45 million vessel carrying 75. The existing fleet is also due a €20 million, six-year upgrade.
