Malta has fallen to 15th among EU countries with a statutory minimum wage, after ranking eighth in both 2016 and 2021, according to Eurofound data cited by the Nationalist Party. Slovenia, Lithuania, Poland, Cyprus, Portugal, Croatia and Greece have moved ahead. Malta’s minimum is €229 weekly, roughly €994 monthly, following a 3.5% rise between 2025 and 2026. The PN argues wage growth is lagging living costs and faster increases elsewhere. The ranking is factual data; the explanation and policy criticism are the Opposition’s interpretation.
