A new EU handling fee of about €2 is expected to apply from 1 November to low-value goods imported from outside the bloc, MaltaPost told MaltaToday. The charge would be separate from the temporary €3 duty introduced in July and from VAT. It remains unclear whether the €2 will be levied on every item or by product type. The Union Customs Code published on 19 September establishes the legal basis for the measures, while the €3 duty is due to remain until July 2028. The permanent handling system will support the EU Customs Data Hub and new customs authority in Lille.
