The Association of International Trucks and Trailer Operators says combined emissions, fuel and bunker surcharges have increased on the Genoa–Malta route from 1 October. It reports a charge of €530.40 per trailer each way, or €1,060.80 for a return trip. ATTO estimates an annual burden of €35 million and warns of pressure on businesses and households. That total is the association’s estimate, rather than an independently established national cost figure.
