Transport Malta and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings signed the agreement during Malta’s Decarbonising The Future conference. Shore electricity can supply lighting, air conditioning and other services while ships are docked, cutting local exhaust emissions. Leonid McKay and Cristian Cutugno signed for the authority and cruise group respectively. The deal extends the use of existing port infrastructure. It concerns emissions at berth rather than eliminating the environmental impact of the ships’ entire voyages.
