Government has launched what it describes as Malta’s first national, structured and long-term training programme for people working in local government. It covers mayors, councillors, executive secretaries, council and association employees, and Local Government Division officials. An EU-co-financed ESF+ project is investing more than €600,000 in training delivered locally, abroad and online. By August, almost 100 participants had received direct support worth close to €200,000. The strategy followed a sector-needs review and work with the Council of Europe and MCAST, alongside study visits to Poland, France and Norway.
