Malta’s first electricity interconnector is due to be switched off for about 12 days while heavy machinery and high-voltage works proceed at the Ragusa terminal in Sicily. Enemalta says local plants have enough available capacity to meet national demand throughout the shutdown. Contractors will modify overhead-line supports, connect new switching equipment and lay a 220kV land cable for a reactor serving either link. The €300 million second interconnector will run roughly 122 kilometres between Magħtab and Ragusa and provide 225MW of additional capacity.
